Rosemount TankRadar® – High Level and Overfill Alarm

Proven since more than 25 years in level gauging, the radar technology is now available for radar-based high-level and overfill alarm handling.

Radar technology

We trust our lives to it. Radar technology equals safety for passengers and cargo on craft travelling sea, air and space. It is safe to say that radar is a trusted and proven technology. In 1976 we introduced radar technology to tank gauging. What we pioneered then is accepted as the industry standard today – because radar offers safety, reliability, accuracy and operational benefits that no other technology can match.
The ideal solution is to apply the proven radar technology also to separate, independent high-level and overfill alarms in order to protect the sensitive marine environment. To make it price competitive we have integrated the alarm handling in the level gauging unit. This means quick and easy installation.

Rosemount TankRadar STaR provides independent, radar-based high-level and overfill alarms for safe and reliable loading of cargo tanks. This is the first radar-based overfill protection in the market, part of the technology pioneering within Emerson Process Management.

Thanks to the radar technology there are no moving parts inside the tank. Nothing that gets stuck, breaks down or need any in-tank maintenance. The radar High Level and Overfill Alarm is not affected by temperature, pressure or density. Furthermore, the system has continuous measuring and an extensive self-monitoring is incorporated, covering all credible faults. There is no longer any reason why the important high level and overfill alarm function should be left to old mechanical solutions.

Multiple solutions

STaR offers a multiple solution. Depending on tanker notification, class and type of cargo, the system can be used for level, high-level and overfill alarms, using one, two or three electronic boards. The tank gauging unit of STaR is designed as three separate systems contained in the same deck unit. The three systems operate with separate signals in separate channels, working independently of each other. The electronics for data capture and information processing outside the tank is also designed as three separate, intrinsically safe systems.
