Rosemount TankRadar® CTS for LNG carriers

Level gauging onboard LNG carriers is challenging. LNG is the lightest one of all hydrocarbons, and remains liquefied when cooled to -163°C at normal pressure. In this harsh tank environment the choice of gauging method is of decisive importance. When handling liquefied natural gas in a cost-effective and safe way, one must be able to rely on accurate and reliable custody transfer measurement, crucial for establishing accounts payable. Once installed the measuring system must be up running during the whole time between regular dry docking periods.
Radar-based tank gauging is the preferred measurement method to fulfil custody transfer standards.
Rosemount TankRadar CTS offers:
Reliability – proven robust design, pre-certified spares for replacement and verification by the crew
Accuracy – bottom absorber for unsurpassed accuracy in the entire measuring range from top to bottom, within a couple of centimetres from the bottom.
Maximum uptime – all services and maintenance carried out exterior to the tank without gas-freeing.
Flexible Cargo Report System – makes the vessel viable for short-term contracts
The importance of pipe size
The most important feature of the LNG radar gauge is the still pipe. A large pipe diameter without internal disturbances improves the performance and avoids the uncertainty of level estimation from the ambiguity caused by several detectable modes and interference from the liquid surface echo. A larger still-pipe also means a more robust design, advantages both during installation and field use at open sea.
Flexible Cargo Report System makes your LNG vessel sought out in the LNG spot trade market
With the Rosemount Flexible Cargo Report System the vessel will be viable for shor-term contracts. The report system is totally adapted to Seller and Purchase Agreement requirements and offers onboard configuration of CTMS parameters.
Integration
The Rosemount TankRadar CTS is stand-alone for providing easy and dedicated certification and can still be functionally integrated with any ship automation system.
Experience
The world’s first radar tank gauging system with approved custody transfer accuracy for LNG vessels was launched by Saab Rosemount in 1996 and soon rendered capacitance-based gauges obsolete. Today, Roseount TankRadar CTS has 63% of the market for LNG newbuildings and is already in use on more than 23% of all available vessels.
